2014 Potential Kentucky Derby Contenders

Road to the Kentucky DerbyThe Kentucky Derby is one of the most exhilarating thoroughbred races to watch! With each furlong the horses pass, the intensity rises in Churchill Downs. Within the blink of an eye, the field narrows down as only the most powerful runners along the pole take the lead and battle down the homestretch.

There is nothing that compares to the roar of the crowd, the stands rise to their feet and knowing in a matter of seconds one horse could be the horse!

The 2014 Kentucky Derby will be here before you know it. With the race season in full force, the list of thoroughbreds who could earn a spot in the field is narrowing as the points are getting racked-up. If you haven’t been keeping an eye on the horses that could be potential Kentucky Derby contenders, now’s the time to start. It’s time to get invested.

Below are the standings as of Feb. 4, 2014:

Will you be attending this year, David?

Most likely will attend. I have business people and friends I can stay with and have access to Churchill so I can decide in early may. Depends on how races shape up. Would go for the entire week, a mini vacation. Thanks for asking.

Wow. A very impressive list. How could Strong Mandate, be omitted from the list. He is quality horse, with the potential to bring home the Roses for Wayne Lukas. A recheck is in order.

Reponding to David Juffet. You correct, David. I attended my first Derby, when Sonny's Halo, brought the roses home. A very wet and rainy Derby Day, but still a memorable one. Every racing fan should try to see at least one Kentucky Derby. It is ohhh so special.

Strong Mandate has been in both future pools and Is a grade 1 winner no doubt he belongs on the above mentioned list. Good call John!

John and David, there is no denying the quality of Strong Mandate. However, we are just keeping our standings updated with kentuckyderby.com. Strong Mandate is not on the board.
