A Horse Racing Year in Review: Already Planning for 2017.

Posted by Darragh Farrelly on Tue, Nov 15, 2016 @ 15:12 PM

The horse racing year of 2016 saw some incredible highlights: Nyquist sweeping all before him to justify favoritism in the Kentucky Derby™, Exaggerator killing off the Doug O’Neill-trained colt’s hopes of a Triple Crown™ as Nyquist ran out of gas in a muddy Preakness, Creator claiming the final jewel of the Crown at Belmont Park to a two-day extravaganza from Santa Anita Park at the Breeders’ Cup®, including Arrogate’s dramatic late victory in the Classic.

Throughout it all, our hospitality and exclusive access gave our clients moment’s they’ll treasure forever, and in 2017 we can’t wait to do it all again!

The Kentucky Derby®

Nyquist Derby win.jpgA day filled with sipping Mint Juleps, the allure of all the crazy and wonderful hats, our live entertainment and celebrity watching – and that’s all before a race was even run. Yeah, it is fair to say that nobody does the Kentucky Derby like Derby Experiences. “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sport,” a nation came to standstill to watch Nyquist, ridden Mario Gutierrez, the unbeaten three-year-old claim America’s most-watched race.

With our exclusive hospitality venues, race fans were immersed in the heart of the action with breathtaking views of Churchill Downs. What sets us apart is the complete weekend; Our Parties, including Fillies & Lillies, the official kick-off event for the Derby, celebrity appearances throughout the week including previous Derby-winning jockeys, musicians and Super Bowl winners, and open bars and gourmet food options.

Derby Experiences gives our clients an unmatched level of excitement and accessibility to the world’s most emblematic race, the Kentucky Derby! Be there in 2017 with us.

Take Me to The 2017 Kentucky Derby!

The Belmont Stakes

Creator Belmont Stakes.jpgWhile Kentucky Derby Runner-up Exaggerator claimed The Preakness Stakes, race fans were given a treat in the final leg of the Triple Crown as grey Creator claimed the Preakness Stakes by a nose in what was seen as an upset. The race favorite, Exaggerator, finished a disappointing 11th. Though onlookers in the three Triple Crown™ races were bereft of Triple Crown™ a la American Pharaoh in 2015, we were reminded that the excitement of the unknown is what makes race days so unique. Three different horses, with three different pedigrees and three racing styles each claimed a jewel in the Triple Crown™.

With Belmont Experiences, guests with premium packages enjoyed privileged views of the track and high-end amenities such as gourmet dining, open bars, outdoor viewing platforms and private wagering stations. Don’t miss the chance to witness the Triple Crown in 2017 unfold with one of our exclusive packages.

The Breeders’ Cup®

From the incredible drama of the Arrogate claiming the $6 million Breeders’ Cup® Classic by a short head over California Chrome, to the wonder mare that is Beholder signing her distinguished career off in style by claiming the Distaff, the 2016 Breeders’ Cup had it all.

Arrogate BC16-1.jpgWith the masses swarming Santa Anita Park as early as 9:00am on Friday (November 9th), our hospitality venues gave race fans the perfect setting to acclimatize to the beautiful Californian weather with the picturesque San Miguel mountains providing a unique backdrop.

Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day, winner of 12 Breeders’ Cup races during his illustrious career, was on hand for guests as he made an appearance in our San Gabriel Lounge on Friday, and then on Saturday in the Post to the Parlour venue.

A day in the Chandelier Room gave our clients a chance to sample some live music, while in the Frontrunner venue fans were treated to a full panoramic view of the entire Santa Anita racetrack. We also gave our guests the unique opportunity chance to avail of the private wagering facilities in our hospitality venues, which, speaking from experience, went down a treat.

In what was a truly unforgettable weekend of the highest quality of horse racing, exquisite hospitality and a truly incredible experience for all attendees, we are already looking forward to next year’s Breeders’ Cup. In 2017, the Breeders’ Cup will take in Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for the very first time.
