The Kentucky Derby falls on the first Saturday of May every year and consists of a fun-filled and action-packed weekend you don’t want to miss. With various events taking place throughout the weekend, you need to be familiar with the schedule so you know where the all the action lies. Take a look below at all of the excitement happening leading up to and the day of the 2016 Kentucky Derby!

Taste of Derby | 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Taste of Derby Party Food Tasting Derby ExperiencesWhat better way to kick off your Kentucky Derby weekend than with Taste of Derby? This celebration combines cuisine, racing and style.

Taste signature dishes from popular horse racing destinations across the country and pair them with your favorite wines. Plus, you can mingle with horse racing celebrities and enjoy live entertainment.

Kentucky Oaks® Day | 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Longines Kentucky Oaks, the premier race for 3-year old fillies, is held each year on the day before the Kentucky Derby. Guests are encouraged to incorporate the color pink into their attire in an effort to raise funds and drive attention to breast and ovarian cancer.

Fillies & Lilies Party | 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

After spending your day watching the Kentucky Oaks, it’s time to head to the Fillies and Lilies party. The Fillies and Lilies Party offers an intimate setting and features live entertainment, a premium open bar, a bourbon lounge, heavy hors d’oeuvres, dancing and much more.

Kentucky Derby® Day

The event we’ve all been waiting for! Derby Day is filled with so much excitement and so many things to do. Keep your day filled with fun activities while waiting for “the most exciting two minutes in sports.”

Here’s a look at the Derby Day schedule:



Place a bet

Wagering windows will open 30 minutes before the first race, approximately 10:00 a.m.

Sip a Mint Julep

Mint Juleps are available as soon as the gates open - 8:00am - and the last call is at the 12th race, approximately 7:15pm

Make a Trip to the Infield and See What's Happening with Party-goers on the Inside of the Track


Visit the Red Carpet, between Gate 10 & Gate 17, and Spot a Celebrity

Celebrities will be walking the Red Carpet from approximately 12:00p.m. to 2:00p.m.

Make a Trip to the Paddock and Get an Up-close View of the Horses

Horses will be in the Paddock 20 minutes prior to each race, for each of the 13 Races. See the Post Times schedule for details.

Watch the Military Armed Forces Ceremony, in the Trackside Winner's Circle, as Newly Enlisted Members are Sworn into Duty

Approximately 2:15p.m.

Watch & listen as Josh Groban sings the National Anthem

Approximately 5:00p.m.

Toast a Glass of G.H.Mumm Champagne, and Help to Set a New Guiness World Record, "The World's Largest Champagne Toast"

Approximately 5:15p.m.

Watch the Track as the Kentucky Derby Contenders and their Connections walk from their barn to the Paddock, in preparation for the Kentucky Derby Race

Approximately 5:54p.m.

Listen for the "Rider's Up" call as the jockey's are instructed to mount their horses, and take to the track.

Approximately 6:15p.m.

Sing "My Old Kentucky Home" with 160,000 fellow Kentucky Derby Fans

Approximately 6:20p.m.

Watch "the most exciting two minutes in sports," the Kentucky Derby

They're off at 6:34p.m.

Cheer as the Kentucky Derby Winning Horse is draped with a Garland of Roses and the Winning Connections are presented with the Kentucky Derby Trophy.

Winner’s Party
| After Kentucky Derby until 9:00 p.m.

Mingle alongside the winning jockey, owners and trainers. Plus, heavy hors d’oeuvres are served and the bar will be open. Last but not least, be a part of the celebration as the Governor of Kentucky and other invited guests toast the winning jockey and ownership at the Winner’s Party.
