The Do’s and Don’ts of the Kentucky Derby® 2018

The Kentucky Derby® is just around the corner and as you prepare for your trip there are a few things to keep in mind. Churchill Downs® security only allows certain items to be carried inside the race track, so we’ve put together a list of some of the things you can and cannot bring with you inside the track.


Things TO DO for the Kentucky Derby®

  • Place food items in a clear plastic bag no bigger than 18" x 18"
  • Bring in plastic bottles of water or soda (sealed, clear and unopened)
  • Bring a purse smaller than 12x12x12
  • Bring baby/diaper bags and strollers if accompanied by a small child
  • Bring sunscreen and rain jacket for protection from all weather conditions
  • Bring your cellphone, a small camera and small personal stereo systems
  • Bring small cushions smaller than 15x15, and collapsible chairs (infield only)

Things NOT TO DO for the Kentucky Derby®

  • Use a cooler to store your food
  • Bring in any cans, glass bottles, or alcoholic beverages
  • Bring a tote bag, suitcase, or backpack larger than 12x12x12
  • Bring animals to the racetrack with the exception of service dogs for guests with disabilities
  • Bring an umbrella to shield you from warm or wet weather conditions
  • Bring a laptop, cameras with detachable lenses, drones or hoverboards
  • Bring pop-up or patron tents that involve poles and stakes of any kind
