Where to Watch the 2019 Kentucky Derby

For well over a century, Churchill Downs has been the home of the biggest race of the year, the Kentucky Derby. Guests come from all over the world to witness the "Race for the Roses", just to get a taste of the most incredible atmosphere in sports. In 2019 — it will be no different.

But where is the best place to watch the action of the Derby at Churchill Downs? What spot offers the best view and total Derby experience?

The truth is that there's multiple sections around Churchill Downs for the optimal time at the 2019 Kentucky Derby, and we've broken down our favorites, plus the Official Ticket Packages remaining from Derby Experiences in the desired areas.

Grandstand at Churchill Downs

Grandstand Churchill Downs

The Grandstand is where you'll experience the most action at the 2019 Kentucky Derby. Situated along the starting line, 3/16 and 1/8 pole of the track, this area provides a plethora of options for potential Derby goers.

For those looking for a slightly elevated view of the starting line and final turn heading onto the main straight, the Grandstand Aqua package is situated perfectly in section 328.

Witness the horses charging past the 1/8 pole with seats in sections 222-224, all available with a Grandstand Red package. This location is a great spot to watch how the horses reach their full stride after the start, but also the last-ditch effort they will all make on the main straight towards the finish line.

For a higher grandstand view that still gives a straight-on look between the 3/16 and 1/8 pole, Grandstand Orange is the package for you. Covering seating sections 323-325, Grandstand Orange lets you see how the horses break out of the gates while still offering a view of the back-half of the track as well.

Both Grandstand Orange and Red seating sections are placed near the infield tunnel, where the horses enter the track from before competing in the first leg of the Triple Crown™.

Courtyard at Churchill Downs

Clubhouse Courtyard

The Courtyard is where the drama truly unfolds at the Kentucky Derby.

With seats covering the 1/16 pole all the way to the finish line, this is the section where you can witness the breathtaking and climatic conclusion to "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports". You can be right there in the final moments before a horse is crowned as a Kentucky Derby winner.

The Courtyard also gives guests a direct view of the World's Largest 4K Video Board on the other side of the track.

Secure your seat at the most climatic section of Churchill Downs with a Clubhouse Brown or Clubhouse Courtyard package from Derby Experiences.

Starting Gate Suites

Starting Gate Churchill Downs

With an elevated view over the Main Grandstand, the Starting Gate Suites offer the newest and highest vantage point of the track at Churchill Downs. Take in the start of the race with a view hovering over the starting gate, while also a great view of the 3/16 pole and the horses as they make their way into the final turn.

The Starting Gate Suites keep you further away from the action, but make up for it by providing a birds-eye view of the entire track.

You can witness the Derby from the Starting Gate Suites with a Starting Gate Dining or Starting Gate Rooftop package from Derby Experiences.
