Drinks Made Famous by The Kentucky Derby®

Part of the fun of that fateful first of May weekend is the food and drink options. No matter where you are sitting at The Kentucky Derby®, there is always someone around you that has an ever-so popular Mint Julep or a gourmet food item from one of the many hospitality points throughout the track. The trick really is can you name any other famous drinks to come out of The Kentucky Derby®?

Mint Julep

Did you know that over 120,000 Mint Juleps are served between the Kentucky Oaks® and Kentucky Derby® days? Completely understandable as this is the most famous of drinks to come from Churchill Downs®, not to mention it’s delightful mixture of bourbon, sugar and mint. Perfect for a hot, sunny afternoon on the track.IMG_2660.jpg

Grey Goose® Oaks Lily®

As the official drink of the Kentucky Oaks®, this drink is absolutely a fan favorite. With a powerful mix of Grey Goose®, sweet and sour mix, Triple Sec and cranberry juice, this drink provides a refreshing break from the day. And as a bonus, the cocktail is served in an Official Oaks Lily® glass, which makes a great party favor for years to come.

Jockey Club

Invented by distiller Allen Katz, this well-known drink shares its name with the breed registry for all thoroughbreds in North America. As a slight variation on a drink popular in NYC, the Jockey Club mixes that famous Kentucky bourbon with sweet vermouth and maraschino liqueur.

Horse’s Neck

Love ginger ale like we do? Then this drink is for you. A classic mix of American whiskey and ginger-ale makes this drink an easy mix for any Derby party.
